In recent years, the association between the adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) and the pathophysiology of central nervous system (CNS) disorders has become clearer, and A2AR has been identified as a potential therapeutic target for a range of CNS conditions, such as ischemic stroke16, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease17. This evidence concerns the gene ADORA2A and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
