NFKB1 and inflammatory bowel disease: Long-standing anti-inflammatory agents accepted as the mainstay therapeutic regimens for IBD, such as corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone, prednisolone), aminosalicylates (e.g., 5-aminosalicylic acid, mesalamine), and immunomodulators (e.g., azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine) exert their therapeutic effects at least in part by suppressing NF-κB activation and its downstream inflammatory responses [64].
