In a study involving non-small cell lung cancer by Wang et al, the uptake of acetate by tumor cells, facilitated by high expression of MCT1 and catalyzed by ACSS2 to produce acetyl-CoA, increased lipid synthesis in the tumor cells and led to elevated levels of lysine acetylation at position 148 of c-Myc (13). This evidence concerns the gene SLC16A1 and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
