While Gal-3 is not expressed by hepatocytes in the healthy liver [22], elevated serum levels of Gal-3 have been observed in individuals with steatotic liver disease, metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), fibrosis, cirrhosis, and HCC [23,24]. The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
