MAFLD is associated with the overexpression of pro-inflammation cytokines and the higher circulating levels of inflammation and oxidative stress factors (such as C-reactive protein, oxidized-LDL, plasma plasminogen activator inhibinor-1, and soluble NOX2-derived peptide), all of which can promote the development of atherosclerosis and CVD (45). This evidence concerns the gene CRP and atherosclerosis.
