GZMB and atherosclerosis: Upon stimulation, these aged splenic CD8+ T cells showed increased expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IFNγ (young: 19.55 ± 1.04% vs. aged: 35.36 ± 2.34%, p < 0.0001) (Fig. 5F) and cytotoxic factor granzyme B (young: 1.47 ± 0.14% vs. aged: 4.94 ± 0.76%, p < 0.0001) (Fig. 5G), providing further evidence that T cell senescence contributed to accelerated atherosclerosis development observed in aged mice.
