SLC5A2 and alkaline phosphatase measurement: Patients with type 2 diabetesmay be particularly susceptible, since recent work by Li et al. provedthat the use of antidiabetic agents from the SGLT2 inhibitor (SGLT-2i)class has been linked to cases of acute pancreatitis (AP). AP, especially when recurrent or progressingto chronic pancreatitis, is a known risk factor for the developmentof pancreatic cancer. Therefore, monitoringpatients who experience drug-induced AP (e.g., those related to SGLT-2iuse) may be crucial for the early detection of neoplastic changesin the pancreas.
