Next, we sought to assess the correlation between parasitemia and inflammation by measuring the inflammatory mediators in the sera collected on day 6 p.i. Both anemic and non-anemic mice infected with P. yoelii exhibited significantly elevated levels of the acute phase proteins Lcn2 and SAA (Fig. 1J and K), as well as the chemokine keratinocyte chemoattractant (KC or CXCL1) (Fig. S2D).
