Several studies have explored the roles of different biomarkers in bitches with pyometra-associated SIRS, demonstrating significant alterations in serum interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-8, keratinocyte-derived chemokine, acute phase proteins, and uterine expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) [3–7]. The gene discussed is IL4; the disease is systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
