In the Strategic Timing of AntiRetroviral Treatment (START) study, incomplete adherence, as assessed by self-report, was associated with increased interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels even when participants had VS [2], and in the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study, incomplete adherence was associated with higher levels of multiple inflammatory markers, including C-reactive protein (CRP) [3]. Here, CRP is linked to AIDS.
