Importantly and as highlighted in the Survey on Anticoagulated Patients Register (START) registry, an Italian multicenter observational registry designed to collect data on patients receiving anticoagulant therapy (27), 60.7% of COC-associated VTE cases occur in women with predisposing prothrombotic conditions, such as Factor V Leiden (FVL) mutation, prothrombin gene mutation, antiphospholipid syndrome or natural anticoagulant deficiency (22). Here, F5 is linked to antiphospholipid syndrome.
