These findings are specifically important since MC cell loss is one of the major hallmark of TLE7 thus, protecting MCs during insults often leading to temporal lobe epilepsy such as SE might be antiepileptogenic.9 Of note, meclofenamate is already an Food and Drug Administration approved drug thus it could be an ideal candidate for drug repositioning.51 Finally, our results further support that besides cardiac pathologies, TRPM4 is a promising drug target in seizure management, demonstrating the urgent need for more potent and more selective TRPM4 antagonists.
