In our previous study, we demonstrated that transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (TRPM4) a member of the transient receptor potential family of ion channels10 is expressed in hilar MCs, and as a Ca2+-activated cation channel regulates their intrinsic electrophysiological properties.11 In addition, we showed that TRPM4 plays a role in MC death following SE thus altering seizure susceptibility, as well as epilepsy-related memory impairments. Here, TRPM4 is linked to epilepsy.
