Because the production of both IGF‐1 and IGFBP‐3 occurs primarily in the liver (Allard & Duan, 2018; Blum et al., 1993), our findings suggest the presence of shared hepatic mechanisms that inhibit the secretion of both IGF‐1 and IGFBP‐3 in response to exercise in individuals with obesity. Here, IGFBP3 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
