IFNA1 and systemic lupus erythematosus: Elevated levels of IFN-α and IFN-λ have been found in the blood and affected tissues of patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) [76,77] and rheumatoid arthritis [78], suggesting that chronic and excessive expression of these interferons may contribute to disease pathology.
