By incorporating East Asian-specific type 1 diabetes susceptibility haplotypes (e.g. DQA1*03:03-DQB1*04:01) and type 1 diabetes protective haplotypes (e.g. DQA1*01:02-DQB1*05:02) that had not been included in GRS2 [13], the C-GRS outperformed European ancestry-based GRS2 in distinguishing individuals with type 1 diabetes from control individuals and distinguishing between individuals with type 1 diabetes and those with type 2 diabetes in Chinese populations. This evidence concerns the gene HLA-DQA2 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
