NOS2 and infection: Additionally, we found that IFNg production by lymphocytes was unable to be maintained as infection progressed, and iNOS production by myeloid cells could not be clearly observed at any timepoint during lethal infection (Extended Data Fig. 1c and d), demonstrating a failure to induce protection in wild type hosts, which contrasts with human Cryptococcus infection where immunocompetent hosts normally do not succumb to infection.
