The pathogenic mechanisms underlying malnutrition in CKD are complex and involve a combination of physiological changes, including gastrointestinal symptoms related to nephropathy, encephalopathy, pericarditis, loss of appetite, albumin depletion, reduced nutrient intake, ghrelin and leptin hormonal imbalances, metabolic disturbances, and gut dysbiosis [6].
