The best diagnostic performance for carcinoma was achieved with the combined methylation analysis of CADM1 and MAL (AUC = 0.912), which outperformed the individual markers: CADM1 (AUC = 0.770), MAL (AUC = 0.770), and PAX1 (AUC = 0.813) (Figure 7b).
