For example, we previously found that circulating levels of corisin and fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), an established marker of intestinal permeability, were both elevated and strongly correlated in COVID-19 patients and in mice with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein-induced organ injury, supporting gut barrier leakage as a contributor to systemic corisin levels. This evidence concerns the gene FABP2 and COVID-19.
