Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) confirmed ALK rearrangement, as split signals were detected in 144 of 188 tumor cells (77%) using the automated image analysis software Metafer 4 (MetaSystems, Altlussheim, Germany) and the Vysis ALK break-apart FISH probe kit (Abbott Molecular, Des Plaines, IL) (Figure 3F). The gene discussed is ALK; the disease is neoplasm.
