Initial laboratory evaluation showed alanine aminotransferase (ALT) of 88 U/L, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) of 139 U/L, alkaline phosphatase of 219 U/L, hemoglobin of 9.4 g/dL, mean corpuscular volume (MCV) of 111.9 fL, and an ethanol level of 146 mg/dL, indicating hepatocellular injury secondary to alcohol abuse and HC (Table 1).
