Prolonged maternal exposure to terbutaline (> 2 days) in the third trimester is associated with an increased odds of child autism. However, the small sample size resulted in an imprecise effect estimate. B2AR agonist use during pregnancy did not explain the authors' previous observation of an increased odds of child autism among mothers with asthma (Croen et al. 2005). The gene discussed is ADRB2; the disease is autism.
