We highlight: (a) UPS ubiquitin-binding proteins are significant in cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, while UPS E3 ligases are significantly represented only in cancers; (b) transcription factors, as reported extensively in the literature, are also found to be well-represented across all disease types included in the study; and (c) molecular chaperones are a functional class with strong associations with cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. This evidence concerns the gene HMBS and cancer.
