Since SKM9‐2 selectively recognizes MPM tumor cells, particularly those of the epithelioid type, but not normal mesothelial cells or cells in other organs [7], the HEG1 glycoform recognized by SKM9‐2 is currently used as a reliable diagnostic marker for MPM [8] and could also be molecularly targeted as therapy, including in NIR‐PIT [7]. This evidence concerns the gene HEG1 and neoplasm.
