Interestingly, ALDH7A1 has recently been identified as the most abundant ALDH isoform in PDAC, where it is associated with tumorigenicity and poor prognosis.48 ALDH7A1 has been implicated in tumorigenicity across multiple cancers,50–52 with roles in cancer-stem cell characteristics,53 metastasis,54 and cell cycle regulation.47 Given its role in energy metabolism and fatty acid oxidation, future studies should investigate whether targeting ALDH7A1 could further sensitize GSTP1-deficient PDAC cells to metabolic stress. The gene discussed is ALDH7A1; the disease is cancer.
