Specifically, Klotho protects kidney function by partially inhibiting nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation to reduce inflammation, suppressing transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) signaling to attenuate renal fibrosis, and acting as a co-receptor for fibroblast growth factor 23 in calcium-phosphate metabolism (16–18). This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and renal fibrosis.
