Fasting hyperinsulinemia as a consequence of insulin resistance is also common in patients with BBS (and was reported in the current study), although a small experimental medicine study using hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamps failed to show differences in insulin sensitivity in patients when compared with control participants with obesity (5), suggesting that impaired insulin action is not exclusively related to BBS. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
