In MASH in vivo study, we have observed an elevated expression of glycolytic genes including Hk1, encoding hexokinase 1, encoding the first enzyme in glycolysis, and Pkm2, encoding pyruvate kinase M2, the last enzyme in the pathway, shown to be upregulated in macrophages of MASH patients (71). This evidence concerns the gene PKM and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
