We analyzed murine bone-marrow derived macrophages (mBMDMs) from Nedd9wt/wt and Nedd9-/- mice as well as human macrophages, and found NEDD9 to be significantly and consistently downregulated and degraded by lysosomes upon infection with various bacteria, including ST. Genetic loss of NEDD9 strongly improved both bacterial clearance and secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, in vitro and in vivo. This evidence concerns the gene NEDD9 and infection.
