ACOD1 and atherosclerosis: Song et al. reported that 4-OI inhibits atherosclerosis in male mice in a nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2–dependent (Nrf2-dependent) manner using an adeno-associated virus atherosclerosis model, while cis-aconitate decarboxylase (Acod1) knockdown, which reduces endogenous itaconate, aggravates atherosclerosis.
