In a previous study, we reported that an adoptive transfer of bone marrow from mice with a global deletion of Setdb2 into irradiated Ldlr-knockout mice resulted in increased vascular inflammation and elevated progression of atherosclerosis when the mice were fed a western diet (WD) relative to mice that were given bone marrow from WT mice.17 Recent literature also indicates that initial exposure of innate immune cells to endogenous atherogenic stimuli during WD feeding in mice results in long-lasting hyperresponsive immune cells in the bone marrow. Here, SETDB2 is linked to atherosclerosis.
