CaSR expression in specific hypothalamic neuronal populations and the smaller body size, glucose intolerance, increased adiposity, delayed bone development and mineralization, and panhypopituitarism observed in the NeuronCaSR−/− mice provide compelling in vivo evidence for previously unidentified actions of neuronal CaSR in supporting growth, energy, and skeletal metabolism. This evidence concerns the gene CASR and Glucose intolerance.
