Through a cost-efficient approach using summary results statistics from large-scale GWASs, this study extends current knowledge of the associations of TAS2R38 genotype and PTC/PROP taste perception for dietary and health outcomes and reveals novel associations, i.e., bipolar disorder, kidney health and gut microbiome, which provide new research directions for understanding the role of this bitter taster receptor gene in human health. Here, TAS2R38 is linked to bipolar disorder.
