Three of the four currently available SGLT2 inhibitors (canagliflozin, dapagliflozin and empagliflozin) have been shown to reduce the rate of adverse CVD outcomes (including heart failure, myocardial infarction, stroke, cardiovascular mortality) in type 2 diabetes,8, 9, 10, 11 whilst ertugliflozin has displayed neutral effects comparative to placebo treatment.12 The gene discussed is SLC5A2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
