SLC6A6 and cutaneous melanoma: Associations at RP11-536I6.1 and RREB1 have been identified previously as nominally significant by Thomsen et al.26The RP11-536I6.1 locus (rs11707457, p = 8.57 × 10−11) contains several genes, including XPC and SLC6A6. XPC encodes a DNA damage recognition protein, with mutations linked to cutaneous melanoma, particularly in individuals with UV-induced damage.45
