In a rat model of chronic ocular hypertension in glaucoma, TNF-α inhibits L-type calcium currents, enhances T-type calcium currents, regulates the expression of Ca2+ channel subunits, affects intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis, and participates in the apoptotic process of retinal ganglion cells in glaucoma (16). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is glaucoma.
