Interestingly, a maternal high‐sugar diet exposure also increased MC4R expression in the ventral tegmental area and nucleus accumbens of male offspring (Gawlinska et al. 2020), suggesting that the impacts of maternal obesity in offspring energy balance might be seen in other brain areas related to food intake control or modulation. The gene discussed is MC4R; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
