SORD and ischemia: A previous study on ischemia/reperfusion‐induced injury of the rat heart revealed that SORD (also called SDH) affects the induction of HIF‐1α by regulating the level of NAD+.[55] HIF‐1α is a subunit of a transcription factor called hypoxia‐inducible factor 1.[79] The physiological function of HIFs is to promote the adaptation of cells to low oxygen by inducing neovascularization and glycolysis.[80] Other high‐signal SV‐associated genes, such as CTNNB1[53] and HPSE,[81] may also help the high‐altitude adaptation of QTP cattle through the HIF pathway.
