Although IFN‐β treatment succeed in a phase II trial for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a severe complication of sepsis, it failed in phase III due to a polymorphism in the glucocorticoid receptor‐binding motif of IFN‐α/β receptor (IFNAR) β chain (IFNAR2) gene, affecting IFNAR expression in response to glucocorticoids [41]. The gene discussed is NR3C1; the disease is acute respiratory distress syndrome.
