Drug efflux mechanisms have emerged as a major contributor to the acquired chemotherapy resistance of HGSOC, driven in large part by chromosomal translocations leading to rearrangements of ABCB1.23,24 While cisplatin and carboplatin are poor MDR1 substrates, taxol, docetaxel, topotecan, and doxorubicin, all of which are used to treat ovarian cancer, are readily exported, leading to the concept of multi-drug resistance. The gene discussed is ABCB1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
