The Biomarkers Reflecting Inflammation and Nutritional Determinants of Anemia (BRINDA) project has released globally endorsed guidelines that recommend ferritin and sTfR concentrations be adjusted for inflammation (based on AGP and CRP concentrations) in preschool children and non-pregnant women of reproductive age [16,17]; however, it remains uncertain whether these biomarkers should be adjusted in pregnant populations. This evidence concerns the gene ATP5MK and anemia.
