Supporting this hypothesis, a gene of the same family of SLC1A6, namely, Slc1a3, was found to be upregulated in the auditory midbrain of aged HL mice models, suggesting the existence of a cellular compensatory mechanism aimed at mitigating excessive glutamate release during the aging process (Tadros et al., 2007). Here, SLC1A6 is linked to Hodgkins lymphoma.
