TNF and inflammatory bowel disease: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by chronic inflammation of the colon and rectum, due to an abnormal immune response to environmental factors among genetically susceptible individuals.1 Medical therapies such as thiopurines, tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi), and other targeted therapies (TTs), which decrease inflammation, are used as medical treatment of UC and should preferably be administered early in the disease course to avoid irreversible tissue damage.2
