Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerativebrain disease. As the population continuesto age, the number of AD patients isexpected to rise and is anticipated to reach 150 million by 2050. AD is defined by β-amyloid (Aβ)-containingextracellular plaques, tau-containing intracellular neurofibrillarytangles, oxidative stress and cholinergic dysfunction. These pathologies reduce the levels of the neurotransmitteracetylcholine (ACh)in the brain, leading to cognitive disabilities, learning deficits and severe memory impairment in patients.−, This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
