As in the CA3 hippocampus of TG-T mice (Lana et al., 2024), astrocytes acquired a protective phenotype also in Layer 5 of the cortex, possibly cooperating with reactive microglia in the scavenging of Aβ plaques, as also found in TgCRND8 (transgenic mice with 2 mutations: APP K670_M671delinsNL (Swedish), and APP V717F (Indiana), a different mouse model of AD (Ugolini et al., 2018).
