BIK and neoplasm: BIK is a founding member of the BH3 family of pro-apoptotic proteins, and its high expression is usually studied to promote apoptosis (Chinnadurai et al., 2008), but it has been suggested that uncontrolled BIK-mediated chronic low-level cell death may lead to tumor cell adaptation and the evolution of aggressive tumor cells (Pandya et al., 2020).
