Nevertheless, previous mathematical modeling by our group and others has been employed to explain the progression of neurodegeneration as assessed by deformation‐based morphometry in PD patients,[20, 66] and also explained the patterns of neurodegeneration of AD and other tauopathies,[25, 67, 68] as well as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.[69] Recently, synaptic oligomeric tau was directly observed in the brains of AD patients,[70] providing further motivation for using mathematical models in prion‐like diseases.
