A meta-analysis of shotgun metagenomic data showed alterations in the gut virome associated with CRC pathogenesis, characterized by an enrichment of bacteriophage richness, especially those invading CRC-associated bacteria, such as F. nucleatum, B. fragilis, or E. coli pks+, a strain that produces a genotoxin that potentially contributes to cancer development. The gene discussed is ARAF; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
