It is interesting to note that several proinflammatory cytokines, including NF-κB, IL-1, IL-8 and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), can be inducibly overexpressed by Streptococci [40,41], suggesting a connection between dysbiosis and the proinflammatory environment that characterizes endometriosis. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is endometriosis.
