Since ROS is known to trigger the assembly of the NLRP3 inflammasome complex [58], and given that we observed priming exclusively in the PBMCs from our PCOS+ patients, we suspect that assembly was initiated in patients with gingivitis, particularly because we observed maturation of procaspase-1 into caspase-1. The gene discussed is NLRP3; the disease is polycystic ovary syndrome.
